Doing This Has Helped Me Face My Deep Hurts...

Posted on

"I no longer allow my heart to be dominated by my situation, but instead by my revelation."

I heard this from Pastor Steven Furtick of Elevation Church. It stuck with me and I wanted to pass it on to you.
I've learned, lately, that everyone has their own "situation." And most situations cause us hurt. Deep hurt.
I have my list of hurts. How about you?
If you're anything like me, you try your best to keep those hurts to yourself. "I'll work it out. It'll all be okay," you tell yourself.
And sometimes it does work out. And sometimes....it just gets worse.
Something that has helped me in facing my hurts is to know WHEN to listen to my thoughts and when to ignore them. The Bible talks about "taking your thoughts captive" and wow! It takes a lot of discipline and effort to do that! I didn't realize what a task it was until I had already committed to trying it. My hurts were consuming me. It was all I could think about every day. So, as hard as it was to take thoughts captive when I had formed a habit of feeding them, I knew I had to stick with it. I had nothing to lose at that point, except more joy. And joy is so precious, Beloved. Don't spare it.
After months and months of trying to form a new habit...the habit of saying "no" to rehearsing my pain, creating false scenarios in my head, feeding on the lies the enemy so enjoyed whispering to my hurting heart - "No! No! NO!" I noticed something. He started to leave me alone. I started to feel BIGGER than what happened to me instead of the opposite way around.
The Holy Spirit, friends. Take advantage of that precious power God gave each of you as a gift. It's yours. And it's the answer to any question you may have today.
This week, as you choose which Glory Active tank and leggings to wear, let THOSE words permeate to your spirit. Let them dwell within you so deeply that any other words that aren't from the Lord, BOUNCE off them, powerlessly and meaninglessly. Choose some amazing worship music (Worship. Not Christian. Not Gospel. True WORSHIP music). I suggest Cory Asbury or Hillsong United. And go for that run. Go for that power walk or hike and begin your internal habit of healing your heart's hurts.
Begin today and this time next week will look different because of your effort.

Praise Him like you already know the outcome of your situation.
HE MAKES NO MISTAKES.
